30 years of excellence.

Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) stands today as a standard-bearer of educational excellence, marking three decades of transformative growth and steadfast commitment to shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. From modest beginnings in 1993, KISU has developed into a distinguished international school, embracing over 40 nationalities within its lively community.

Situated in the heart of Kampala, KISU boasts cutting-edge facilities and a diverse faculty. Our progression from a primary school on a humble campus to a sprawling, contemporary institution mirrors our dedication to providing a fulfilling learning environment for each student.

At the heart of KISU’s triumphs are our highly experienced and dedicated teachers, who instill a passion for learning and nurture the potential of every child. Led by a team of proactive leaders, we remain devoted to staying ahead in educational innovation, consistently adapting to meet the changing needs of our students.

As we embark on the fourth decade, we reaffirm our dedication to nurturing global citizenship, teamwork, and resilience among our students. Beyond the confines of the classroom, we believe in offering enriching experiences that broaden horizons and equip students for the challenges of the future.

From our Director

As the School Director of Kampala International School Uganda (KISU), I am deeply committed to our mission: ‘Educating Today’s Children for Tomorrow’s World’. This mission is the cornerstone of our approach to education, where we strive to provide the highest quality teaching and learning experiences. Our approach embraces inquiry, learner agency, and innovation, ensuring that every student is prepared for the complexities of tomorrow’s world.

We are a forward-thinking institution, as evidenced by our early adoption of artificial intelligence in our curriculum. This not only demonstrates our commitment to staying at the forefront of social and technological innovation but also prepares our community to lead in these areas.

At KISU, we adapt the English National Curriculum to suit our unique context, enriching our students’ learning experiences and ensuring they receive a globally recognised education. We proudly offer the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma qualifications. These are the gold standards in international education and open doors to prestigious universities in the UK, USA, Canada, and the EU.

Our commitment to being research-informed and data-led allows us to continuously refine our educational approaches, ensuring they are the most effective and beneficial for our students. The inclusion of creativity, activity, and service (CAS) within our academic programmes underscores our belief in the importance of well-rounded education, preparing students not just academically but also as compassionate and active members of society.

KISU’s distinctive educational approaches, such as our emphasis on learner agency and our innovative use of technology, set us apart. We are dedicated to not only pursuing our mission and vision but also ensuring that our students are well-equipped to make significant contributions to the world. Our academic programmes and our commitment to excellence in all areas underscore this dedication, making KISU a beacon of international education in Uganda.

Word from a KISU parent

My name is Hala A. Gubara, and as a parent of KISU since the year 2000, it is a pleasure to share my experience with you. Having been a parent at KISU for many years, I have three children who graduated and two who are currently at the school. Among my graduated kids, one is a pharmacist, one is a digital marketer, and the other is a lawyer. It has been rewarding to see the phenomenal way in which the school shapes and supports its students, no matter the career path chosen.

As a member of the PTA for several years, it has been a pleasure to support the school’s activities and take part in continuing to bridge the relationship between parents and teachers. I take this opportunity to also express the level of duty of care displayed by KISU staff in the various hats and roles they play.

KISU has a fantastic culture that embodies diversity, inclusion, and facilitates multifaceted experiences through a variety of extracurricular activities. My kids benefited from taking part in unique and exciting after-school activities, including skating, baking, MUN, and many more. I believe this created a healthy balance between academic and non-academic life. With fantastic facilities, this supported the learning of kids by providing different teaching styles and creating a nurturing learning environment.

A poem from KISU

for the Eye Magazine reader

The Recipe for Freedom

Firstly, we need a bit of fun.

So now the sweetening has begun.

Add a bit of happiness.

To take away the sloppiness

Crack and add a fair amount of fun friends.

Make sure they last till the end.

Pour a bit of trust

To take away the dust

Now stir for 4-5 minutes.

Let it bake for 30 minutes

In the meantime, grate a small bit of alone time.

Spread a bit of family time

So now it’s a dime

Put a pinch of holiday

And keep work fairly far away.

Glaze some weekends for explosiveness.

And some independence to decorate

Sprinkle a bit of love

You can never have too much

Congratulations, You have made freedom!

Share some with your friends, family, or a kingdom.
