HEALTH FEATURE

In the morning the patient arrives with
a relative at the hospital and vitals are
taken. After a short check of blood
        pressure, body temperature and pulse
the patient is brought to the treatment
        room. A mobile X-ray machine, a so
called C – arm (referring to the form
looking like the letter C) is used to guide
the injection of medication into or around
        the spine. Under sterile circumstances
a mix of steroids and anaesthetics is
        administered directly to the inflamed
and painful area. This therapy is not
only used in cases of facet joint arthritis,
but also brings relief to pain caused by
        herniated discs and spinal stenosis.
        The C-arm provides real-time imaging,
        allowing precise placement of the
needle and ensuring the medication is
        delivered exactly where it`s needed.
        This method improves accuracy and
reduces the risk of complications machine at MFK
        compared to spinal surgery. Another
                                                The fluoroscopy (C-arm)
        advantage is the significant reduction
in the use of oral pain killers hence
        eliminating their side effects.
After the first session the patient goes
home one hour after the injection. Dr. Frauke and Dr. Mike
Finally he can have a good sleep that Kawooya
night. On Wednesday he comes in
walking on his own, no need to walk
with the stick any longer. After the third
session on Friday he is already able to
move all body parts in a way he hasn’t
        moved them in many months!
The effect of this pain management
can last for several months, in some
cases even years. Of course it will not
turn back time, but the quality of life for
