Aquarius Kigo Resort is a luxury eco-resort on the shores of Lake Victoria near the Lake Victoria Serena, close to Mirembe Villas.

My friend and I recently visited Aquarius for a little weekend staycation, intent on pampering ourselves away from the stresses of city life. We arrived on a Friday evening at this huge, blue, arena-like building, the unusual architecture of which was quite astonishing. The lobby was filled with an orange light as the sun was setting which gave us an instant feeling of holiday and peace.
A friendly lady checked us into our room and gave us a tour of the hotel. The conference hall was busy being decorated and set up for a wedding the next day. There was a nice smell of food lingering in the corridor and we decided that, after our tour, our first stop would be the pool terrace for dinner overlooking the lake, the pool and the Wedding Garden with its surrounding tropical vegetation.

Our room had all the heart could desire, spacious and with a bathroom that didn’t leave out anything. A huge freestanding bathtub with view of the pool and gardens was surely the highlight but to make it even better, there was a sliding door to the room, which allows you to watch your favourite Netflix series right from the bathtub. Heavenly!!!

Our dinner experience was really special. Calm background music and a fireplace right next to our table created a very romantic touch. I had a delicious vegetable soup with roasted garlic bread while my friend had the Fillet Steak with Mustard Crust. It looked so yummy, I had to steal a bite and YES, it was as tasty as it looked, so juicy and flavourful. You have to try it for yourself! We drank cocktails and talked till deep in the night until we retired to our room

Our sheets were crisp and we slept like babies. The next morning, I woke early for a workout at the gym while my friend was still deep asleep. The gym was spacious and well equipped with an open window frontage that allowed me to enjoy the sunrise over the lake while warming up on the treadmill.

We had breakfast on the rooftop deck overlooking the gardens and lake where we could see plenty of fishermen and we even spotted a pair of crested cranes. We ate Eggs Benedict and selected from the Aquarius Breakfast which offered a variety of pastries, muesli, fruits, fresh juice and coffee. All so yummy and a good foundation to start our day of pure relaxation.

After a dip in the pool, we visited the Purity Spa which has a lot to offer. Even more comforting, all their treatments are organic and scrubs are made in-house. I chose a Hot Stone Massage while my friend had a coffee scrub and a facial. After visiting the sauna and steam bath, we were taken to our massage rooms which were nicely decorated with candles and tropical wall murals with an amazing scent of rosemary and sandalwood. We had a very peaceful and relaxing experience; the therapists were competent and made us feel so well taken care off. I can just recommend their services!!!

The Saturday night dinner was the highlight of our stay. We mellowed down the night with a BBQ and wine with a great live band playing and friendly service from the staff!
